With autumn around the corner we're taking a look at key wedding food and styling trends for autumn 2018
This year has seen an increase of classic and pared back wedding cake styling such as clean minimalist icing paired with a satin ribbon or simple yet stunning cake topper. But we cannot forget the most popular wedding cake trend the ‘naked cake’! Named naked because of the cakes sponge layers exposure with either minimal butter icing, a light sprinkle of icing sugar, a small selection of fruit and flowers for decoration or nothing at all
However the trend we love for upcoming autumn weddings is the much loved fig wedding cake which is on the increase by 57 percent! Figs are in season up until October and are currently highly sought after in the supermarkets and street markets.
With a delicate aroma and sweet flavour this jammy fruit works so well when coming to choose or bake a cake from decor to sticky fillings. The bright red interior and rich but dusky purple exterior works so well with the classic autumn wedding colour palette.
We love a cake that is not only made from delicious seasonal ingredients but also compliments the theme and overall character of the wedding
RICHLY TONED FLORAL DISPLAYS
Think deep purples contrasted with delicate mauves, sumptuous berry reds teamed with dark blues, classic creams for balancing the palette mixed in with lots of strong foliage and your bang on trend for autumn weddings this year!
Free form floral styling is also a big trend that has been seen yet again throughout this year. This type of floral styling lends itself to a natural forrest feel, which in turn works perfect with the dramatic yet romantic autumn floral palette we have predicted
LOOK AND STYLE
Mahogany weddings chairs have recently started trending, becoming a fresh and much needed alternative to either classic white or the never ending trend of rose gold and of course the notorious ghost chairs.
This is the perfect season to feature natural or mahogany stained wooden chairs whether they with a slatted fold out chair with floral décor at the back or traditional or vintage looking chair with luxe cushion pads.
Mahogany can also be worked into other wedding decoration elements from hanging design features, cake stands and charger plates on tables
If you would like to inject a little warmth and luxury to your wedding choosing velvet for autumn is a good choice. From bridesmaid dresses to table decor velvet can be incorporated in many ways to create mood and give depth to the colour scheme of your wedding. Velvet is naturally rich in colour and can easily create texture and mood when manipulated. This can be done by creasing long length of velvet down tables, neatly pulling together the fabric with a bow at the backs of chairs or even draping velvet from pillars or wooden beams
This is one of the biggest trends that will be seen throughout a variety of events this year! This can be due to a steady rise in healthier eating, allergy and dietary requirements and alternative foodie offerings. However this trend has recently significantly rocketed due to the newly wed Duke and Duchess of Sussex who tied the knot on the 19th May 2018.
Yes we’re talking about bowl foods! But what are they?
They are little tasting sized servings normally a quarter of the size of a main course, usually featuring fresh healthy ingredients, full of colour and visually pleasing. Bowl foods are normally served for guests who are standing and mingling as a more filling option opposed to the classic canape. However this is not always the case, Harry and Meghan opted for three bowl foods instead of a formal sit down meal.
Despite these little wonders being around for years this is a must have for couples who want to opt for a more causal and trendy way of wedding dining this year
